Dr Farhan Shahid is a highly experienced consultant interventional cardiologist based in Birmingham, with expertise in a wide range of heart conditions. He cares for patients with problems such as chest pain, microvascular angina, palpitations, shortness of breath, fainting (syncope), arrhythmias, valvular heart disease, high blood pressure, heart attacks, and heart failure. He sees private patients at The Harborne Hospital.
Alongside his general cardiology work, Dr Shahid has advanced skills in performing complex PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) procedures, using modern techniques such as orbital atherectomy, rotablation, and intravascular lithotripsy to manage coronary artery disease. He also has a strong interest in imaging, including echocardiography, intravascular ultrasound, and optical coherence tomography.
Dr Shahid studied medicine at the University of London, where he also completed an intercalated BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science at King’s College London. His cardiology training took him through some of the UK’s leading centres in London, Manchester, Cardiff, and Swansea, followed by a fellowship in complex PCI at The Royal Freeman Hospital. He later completed a PhD on atrial fibrillation at the University of Birmingham.
He has been actively involved in both national and international research trials, and his work has been widely published in respected medical journals. Dr Shahid is a member of several professional organisations, including the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (MRCP), the British Cardiac Society, the British Cardiovascular Interventional Society, and the British Society of Echocardiography.
