Professor James Spratt is a distinguished consultant cardiologist, practising in both London and Edinburgh, with an international reputation for excellence in interventional cardiology. His main expertise lies in coronary angioplasty and the treatment of coronary artery disease, particularly in highly complex cases. He also specialises in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and the management of cardiovascular risk factors. Patients with difficult or advanced cardiac conditions who have been declined surgery elsewhere are frequently referred to him for his specialist input.
Professor Spratt studied medicine at the University of St Andrews, graduating in 1990, before earning his medical and surgical degree from the University of Manchester. He went on to achieve a Doctorate of Medicine in clinical research at the University of Edinburgh in 2004, and subsequently undertook advanced training in interventional cardiology at the University Hospital of Geneva.
With one of the world’s most extensive experiences in complex PCI, Professor Spratt has played a pivotal role in advancing treatment for coronary disease. He has pioneered innovative procedural techniques, performed live demonstrations across the globe, and contributed significantly to shaping modern interventional cardiology practice.
Alongside his clinical work, Professor Spratt is professor of interventional cardiology at St George’s, University of London. He is also the founder of Optima Education, a programme designed to deliver advanced training and education to medical professionals worldwide. Over the past decade, his leadership and teaching have reached more than a hundred hospitals internationally.
