Professor Sagar Doshi is an accomplished consultant cardiologist with extensive experience in interventional cardiology and valvular heart disease. His specialist areas include TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation), mitral regurgitation, heart valve surgery, echocardiography, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. He sees private patients at The Harborne Hospital (HCA Healthcare) and also practices within the NHS at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
Professor Doshi is the director of the TAVI programme at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which he established in 2008. Since then, he has performed over 1,800 TAVI procedures for severe aortic stenosis, as well as more than 2,200 percutaneous coronary interventions, including angioplasties and stent placements. He is also a leading expert in Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER), offering advanced treatment for mitral and tricuspid regurgitation in complex valvular heart disease.
He graduated with an MBChB and BSc (Hons) from the University of Wales in 1990 and earned an MD from the Wales Heart Research Institute, supported by a British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellowship. Professor Doshi completed an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, before returning to the UK in 2002 to join Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
In addition to his clinical work, Professor Doshi holds honorary academic positions, including Honorary Professor at University College Birmingham and Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Birmingham Medical School. He is actively involved in research, education, and training, regularly lecturing on interventional cardiology and valvular heart disease both nationally and internationally.
Professor Doshi is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), FACC, the British Cardiovascular Society, and the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society. His expertise has been sought worldwide, including in countries such as Japan and the United States, where he has proctored TAVI procedures.
